Overview
Big Bend Community College (BBCC) invites applications for the position of full-time, tenure-track Sociology/Psychology Instructor. This position is part of the five-person Social Sciences Division. Candidates should be prepared to teach Sociology and have the ability to also teach Psychology within the Social Sciences. We seek faculty dedicated to creating supportive, inclusive learning environments and who value the success of all students.
The anticipated start date is September 14, 2026.

Essentialresponsibilities
- Prepare and teach Sociology and/or Psychology courses. This will include a blend of day, evening, hybrid, and online classes.
- Provide regular and predictable access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
- Instruct, assist, and motivate students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed substantive feedback on assignments and discussions.
- Advise students; assist students in planning an educational program and in selecting courses, and when necessary refer students to appropriate student services for assistance.
- Participate as an active member of working committees dealing with instruction, college-wide and department assessment, student matters and/or college related concerns.
- Represent and advocate for the Social Sciences Department at Social Science Division and campus-wide meetings.
- Design, implement, and document assessment tasks with and for the Social Sciences Department.
- Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be a positive contributing member of the campus community.
- Provide advice and support for social science adjunct faculty in conjunction with the department.
- Maintain positive and effective communications with students, faculty, administration, and staff.
- Foster a flexible and supportive learning environment that is responsive to the diverse needs of students.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, development, and conduct.
- Other duties as agreed to with division chair or administrator.
At the time of application, all applicants must possess the following:
- A Master’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Integrated Social Science or related Social Science with adequate graduate coursework to allow for instruction in both Sociology and Psychology.
- Prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level (community college, university, or dual enrollment).
- Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, and learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) that incorporates regular and substantive interaction.
- Experience supporting and engaging individuals with diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, age, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.
