Job Description JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and the Day Camp Supervisor, the Lead Teacher is responsible for the daily direction of site staff and program participants. The Day Camp Lead Teacher will plan, implement, lead, and evaluate daily recreational activities for children ages 5-12 attending the City of Moses Lake day camp program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Fulfillalldutiesofthe Site Supervisorinhis /her absence.
- Assistin developing,organizing,andimplementingallaspectsofthesummerdaycampprogramforyouthages5-12yearsold.
- Planand teachvariousactivitiesincluding,butnotlimitedtoartsandcrafts,nature-oriented activities,games,sports,and songs.
- Serveasapositiverolemodelforotherstaffandprogramparticipantsatalltimes.
- Work closelywithotherstaffinanenthusiastic,cooperative,andsupportivemanner.
- Assist theSiteSupervisorwith maintaining a 1:10teacher/participant ratio,andappropriatestaff hours.
- Assistthe Site Super Supervisorwithfollowing allprogrampoliciesandprocedures.
- Maintainthesafetyofparticipatingchildrenandstaffatalltimes.
- Renderfirstaidincaseofminorinjury.
- Plan,implement, andleadthemainactivityforeachday.
- Workwithotherstafftocoordinate snacksandavarietyofotherdailyactivities.
- Assistthe Site Supervisorintheimplementationofbehaviormanagementplansfortheentireprogramandindividual participants.
- Cleanprogramareasandstoreequipmentandsuppliesattheendofeachday.
- Assistwiththepreparationandmaintenanceofrequiredreports.
- Attendrequiredstafftrainingandothermeetings.
- Maintainaprofessionalimageandpositiveattitudeatalltimes.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Site Supervisor, Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Superintendent,and Parks and Recreation Director.
- Knowledge and experience working with children, sports, and recreational activities.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, understanding, and emotional stability.
- Ability to interact professionally with the general public and program participants.
- Ability to foster a collaborative group process and efficiently use resources.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to anticipate and prevent accidents.
- Ability to comply with program policies.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong sense of personal ethics along with a high degree of professional judgment and discretion.
- Ability to communicate with supervisor for program and personal needs.
The Recreation Supervisor and Day Camp Supervisor assign work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINESGuidelines include Moses Lake Parks and Recreation, and Larson Recreation Center policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThis position consists of working with youth and parents to oversee Day Camp operations.
CONTACTSContacts are typically with youth campers, parents, and recreation staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT- Indoor and outdoor environment.
- Working varied hours, including mornings or evening shifts and some weekends.
- Be able to be active with children and provide clear instructions.
- Climbing ladders.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Lifting heavy objects weighing fifty (50) pounds.
- Reaching overhead and above shoulders.
- Kneeling or crouching.
- Hearing and speaking to communicate information.
- Reading and writing to communicate information.
- Seeing to monitor activities.
- Sensing hot and cold.
- Ability to swim or wade in water.
Responsible for the direction of site staff and operations in the absence of the site supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Educational background in recreation, education, or child development is preferable.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience interacting with children and the public is highly desirable.
- Current First Aid/CPR certifications are required, or willing to obtain within the first week of hire.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Food handler’s card, or willing to obtain within the first week of hire.
- All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check process which includes reference checks and criminal history checks, or other.
