Mechanic I
Mechanic I:
This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of university vehicles, construction equipment and landscape‑care equipment. It will provide technical support and customer service to other department programs and maintenance operations.
- Maintain and repair university vehicles and equipment
- Maintain shop tools and equipment
- Maintain an inventory and record of parts
- Provide customer service
- Assist with other maintenance duties
- Other duties as assigned
Mechanic II:
The position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of university vehicles, construction equipment and landscape‑care equipment. It will provide technical support and customer service to other department programs and maintenance operations.
- Maintain and repair university vehicles and equipment
- Manage a fleet of vehicles and equipment
- Create and assign service requests
- Maintain an inventory and record of parts
- Two years maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment including:
- Automotive and small‑engine diagnostics and repair
- Mechanical systems
- Use of hand and power diagnostic tools
- Troubleshooting and overhauling
- Working in a team environment
- Five years maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment including:
- Automotive and small‑engine diagnostics and repair
- Mechanical systems
- Use of hand and power diagnostic tools
- Troubleshooting and overhauling
- Maintaining records that document compliance with DEQ regulatory requirements
- Working in a team environment
Mechanic I and II:
None
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university‑owned vehicles
- Ability to respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on weekend call‑out duty on a regular rotation. During seasonal snow removal, extended work shifts and additional night shifts are required
- Possess Master Automobile Technician and Maintenance and Light Repair Technician certifications from ASE or be able to acquire them within six months of hire
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university‑owned vehicles
- Ability to respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on weekend call‑out duty on a regular rotation. During seasonal snow removal, extended work shifts and additional night shifts are required
- Experience performing fleet care and/or heavy equipment repair including:
- tire installation and repair
- brake replacement and repair
- automotive electrical diagnostics and repair
- landscape equipment repair
- diesel and gasoline engine repairs
- vehicle repairs
- snow equipment and hydraulics repair
- Certifications to operate heavy equipment such as loader, backhoe, grader, roller, excavator, aerial lift, scissor lift, street sweeper, forklift, uni‑loader, mower and equipment lift
- GCSAA training and small engine repair OPESA certification
- Demonstrated skill in welding and/or fabricating specialized vehicular devices
- Possess or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver License Class B or better with air brake endorsement
- Three years performing fleet care and/or heavy equipment repair including:
- tire installation and repair
- brake replacement and repair
- automotive electrical diagnostics and repair
- landscape equipment repair
- diesel and gasoline engine repairs
- vehicle repairs
