This position is responsible for ensuring life safety systems are working properly to detect and announce fires and/or trouble in all campus buildings.
This is an essential position that may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.
Responsibilities- Ensure the proper operation of fire alarm systems
- Collect and maintain fire systems records and systems information
- Update and manage the university’s fire alarm system preventative maintenance schedules
- Install and maintain Campus Panic/Duress systems and CCTV systems
- Maintain and service campus fire extinguishers
- Programming, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing and repairing conventional and addressable fire suppression, detection and alarm systems
- Interpreting plans and blueprints for electrical and mechanical systems
- None
- Possess a State of Idaho Limited Energy License or be able to obtain one within six months of hire
- Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
- Respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on weekend call-out duty on a regular rotation
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Familiarity with recognized codes and standards related to the fire alarm system industry such as NFPA , IBC , UL and IFC
- Good knowledge of basic computer operations and alarm system microprocessors; data logging devices and methods of interfacing equipment to computers; and of electronic instrumentation principles
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Understanding of engineering, hydraulics and the design of Automatic Fire Suppression ( AFS ) systems, halon systems and dry chemical extinguishing systems
- Certification in fire alarm systems with the National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologies ( NICET )
- Must be able to:
- Bend, stoop and climb ladders
- Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
