This position aids in developing and implementing the Recycling, Compost and Solid Waste programs to minimize waste production and manage costs on the University of Idaho campus.
Duties- Dispose of a variety of materials
- Maintain records of overall types and weights of materials leaving the university
- Establish fair market value and maintain current records of disposition
- Assist with managing and oversight of the solid waste program
- Work with the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) to identify, reduce and divert hazardous waste
- Attend meetings and training sessions to keep current on program changes and solid waste technologies and regulations
- Learning and following set procedures and routines
- Setting priorities and organizing daily responsibilities
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university‑owned vehicles
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Post‑secondary education or training certificates related to the solid waste and recycling industries, with emphasis on current regulations, rules and practices
- Two years of warehousing or production experience in a recycling, collection center or warehouse environment
- Knowledge of and/or training on state and federal property disposal guidelines
- Experience safely handling and shipping hazardous materials
- Certification involving hazardous materials safety training
- Expressed interest in learning and acquiring skills related to recycling and solid waste
- Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
- Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Push, pull or otherwise move loaded wheeled carts, containers or tow units by hand over hard surfaces
- Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday
- Work in inclement weather conditions
- Work on uneven and slick surfaces
