Overview

This individual performs detailed outside plant facility engineering tasks that include estimating, analyzing, designing, planning, budget tracking estimates against actual costs for copper and fiber cables, poles, direct buried and conduit systems. The position is responsible for preparing and interpreting engineering plans, drawings and reports; preparing loop loss design for load and repeater electronics, planning and designing field-mounted switches serving areas, performing pole, conduit and buried facility design measurements to support company and industry OSP design standards and economic feasibility studies.

The position is responsible for specific job budget development and tracking, periodic job inspections and quality control.

Additional duties include collecting field data; preparing and organizing permit packages for submittal to the appropriate entities; maintaining complex files, keeping records, searching and investigating information contained in files; processing departmental documents requiring specific knowledge of functional operations; posting records including accounting and continuing property records; typing correspondence and reports from rough drafts; and assisting engineers as requested.

Qualifications
  • Ability to identify existing voice/data plant, electric, and other utilities on the site plans as well as in the field
  • Ability to indicate existing voice/data plant location and relocate facilities and knowledge of obtaining right-of-way and easements where required
  • Knowledge of obtaining right-of-way and easements where required
  • Must be capable of engineering routine and specific COE/OSP work orders, including more complex projects such as road moves, etc.
  • Must have an expert knowledge of COE/OSP principles, work order procedures, voice/data industry standards, PC applications, and COE/OSP record and/or computer-aided drafting systems
  • Must have own tools such as a measuring wheel, height stock, pull finder, laptop, etc.
  • Experience/Understanding with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) for engineering requirements.
