Position SummaryThe Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Idaho seeks applications for an Instructor in Special Education. This is a non-tenure track, academic year appointment. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate special education courses and collaborate with faculty, students, and K–12 partners. The position requires teaching a minimum of 12 credits per semester (fall & spring), participation in recruitment and departmental activities, and representing the program at professional, university, and community events.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in special education
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement in special education programs
- Support programming to deliver grant-funded projects
- Collaborate with faculty, schools, and community partners to support special education initiatives
- Supervise teacher candidates during student teaching internship
- Participate in departmental meetings, recruitment events, and program outreach
- Represent the university in professional and community contexts

Description:
This appointment is contingent on funding and/or work to support the position. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event of insufficient funding and/or work, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may: (1) change this Agreement by adjusting the employee’s FTE and annual salary throughout the contract year; or (2) terminate this Agreement and employee’s employment prior to the end of the term of appointment, upon 60 days written notice or such lesser amount of notice as the funding or sponsoring agency had to give to the University before decreasing or terminating funding for the employee’s position.
Employee further acknowledges and agrees that in the event termination for insufficient funding becomes necessary, the notice provisions of Faculty Staff handbook 3900B will not apply.

Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications- Earned master’s degree in special education or closely related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience with students with disabilities in the K-16 setting
- Demonstrated experience of research-based instructional and behavioral practices for students with disabilities
- Experience in interpersonal communication with higher education colleagues and K-12 school personnel
- Advanced degree (EdS, EdD, or PhD) in special education or closely related field
- Endorsement(s) in special education recognized by the State of Idaho or equivalent state licensure
- Expertise in learning disabilities, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction
- Record of building collaborative partnerships with schools, districts, and community organizations
