Position Summary
The Marketing & Events Manager oversees the planning, promotion, and execution of Chamber and EDC events, leading event-focused marketing and communications that strengthen Morton’s business community and local economy.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about event coordination, volunteer leadership, and community engagement.
Leading with a people-first approach, the Marketing & Events Manager empowers volunteers to take ownership of key projects and events. They view delegation as both a management tool and a relationship-building practice—trusting volunteers with meaningful responsibility, recognizing their contributions, and fostering shared pride in Morton’s success.
The position also manages all event-specific marketing initiatives, including the Morton Pumpkin Festival website, event sections of the Chamber and EDC websites, and Pumpkin Festival social media platforms. The manager provides event-related content for Chamber and EDC social media pages to ensure consistent, engaging communication across all channels.
Key ResponsibilitiesEvent Planning & Production
- Lead Chamber and EDC events from concept to completion
- Collaborate with the Executive Director/CEO and Business Development Director on the development of new events
- Coordinate logistics, vendor and sponsor relationships, contracts, and event-day management.
- Prepare layouts, schedules, materials, and post-event reports.
- Recommend improvements to enhance event quality, efficiency, and attendee experience.
Event Administration
- Develop and monitor annual and event-specific budgets.
- Track and reconcile event finances, invoices, and reports.
- Maintain timelines, progress reports, and committee updates for the Executive Director and Board.
- Work directly with the Executive Director/CEO to finalize and document all event finances post-events.
Event Marketing & Communications
- Oversee marketing and promotion for all Chamber and EDC events.
- Create visuals, messaging, and storytelling that align with each event’s brand and goals.
- Manage the Morton Pumpkin Festival website, event pages on Chamber and EDC websites, and Pumpkin Festival social media platforms.
- Provide event-related content for Chamber and EDC social media pages to ensure brand consistency and cross-promotion.
- Develop and schedule digital campaigns to increase participation and sponsorship visibility.
- Lead quarterly meetings with local leaders and businesses who routinely host events to coordinate local event marketing, strengthen collaboration, boost tourism, and positively impact Morton’s economy.
- Track event marketing performance and engagement metrics.
- Recruit, equip, and support event chairmen and committees.
- Communicate clearly with volunteers to ensure they feel informed and appreciated.
- Delegate responsibilities to build ownership, trust, and confidence.
- Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions.
- Create and manage special event committees as needed.
General Responsibilities
- Work within event and marketing budgets to meet revenue and expense goals.
- Collaborate with staff on marketing materials and public communications.
- Represent the Chamber/EDC at community events and programs.
- Assist with office support as needed.
- 2–4 years of professional experience in event planning, marketing, or communications.
- Proven success coordinating major events.
- Proficiency in Canva, Excel, Publisher, and social media platforms.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.
