Main FunctionThe Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with recognized Standards of Practice, State Practice Act Standards, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.
Duties, Responsibilities, Competencies- Assess patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel for effective and efficient case management.
- Consider cost containment by using supplies economically and ensuring effective turnover time.
- Prepare the operating room according to the requirements of the patient/procedure to be performed.
- Implement the plan of care safely and effectively, ensuring a safe environment, including but not limited to positioning the patient safely, padding bony prominences, and ensuring respiratory and circulatory protection.
- Ensure correct prepping and draping procedures.
- Conduct the “time out” process prior to incision to confirm correct patient, procedure, and surgical site.
- Maintain asepsis during all procedures; open and present sterile items to the sterile field aseptically; ensure supplies are not expired.
- Account for all sponges, needles, and sharps during and after the procedures and document appropriately.
- Promote positive communication with all team members.
- Anticipate needs of the surgical team and assist anesthesia personnel by supporting the patient during anesthesia administration.
- Maintain current knowledge, certification, and licensure; pursue continuous growth and development.
- Serve as a role model for current and new staff.
- Demonstrate a professional manner.
- Attend all required safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
- Follow the center exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
The work environment includes occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Medical facilities require excellent hygiene to keep patients safe from illness and infection. There is a category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but training in hand washing practices, universal precautions, and access to personal protective equipment is provided.
Noise, odors, and interruptions occur daily, with moderate noise levels.
This position may have leadership responsibilities for the surgical team during surgical cases.
Requirements- Must possess a current Illinois license as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience.
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Preferred: PALS certification, Bachelor’s degree, ASC experience, specialty certification in a related area.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, physicians, and the general public; apply mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions; use MS Word, e‑mail, and scheduling software; recognize problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
work variable hours and remain flexible to meet the center’s daily surgery schedule.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; lift patients, assist patients falling, and carry heavy medical equipment; have close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; stoop, kneel or crouch; escort patients to and from care areas; exhibit upper‑body strength for lifting or helping patients out of bed or bath.
Salary$35.00 - $45.00, depending on experience
