The school social worker provides supportive services that allow students to maximize their educational opportunities and develop their individual potential. Services are grounded in an understanding of the relationship between student achievement and the influences of psychosocial development, family, community, and culture. This position uses specialized skills and training to address student needs, resolve conflicts that arise between school expectations and student background experiences, and support overall student well‑being.
The social worker will collaborate closely with general education and special education teams to support students in grades 3-6 throughout the duration of the leave. This position will report to the Director of Services and the Principal.
RESPONSIBILITIES & PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE:Professional Knowledge & Application:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in school social work principles, theories, and methods of practice within the educational setting.
- Understands processes for identifying and supporting students with social‑emotional or behavioral needs, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Applies Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards and evidence‑based practices to address academic, communication, and social‑emotional needs.
- Collaborates effectively with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Maintains knowledge of community resources and shares this information with students, families, and colleagues.
- Provides individual and group counseling, social‑emotional interventions and crisis response aligned with student needs in grades 3-6.
- Conducts assessments and interprets data to monitor student progress and inform intervention planning.
- Implements strategies for crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and prevention of crisis situations.
- Participates in problem‑solving meetings and provides input on appropriate student supports and services.
- Supports students and families in accessing school and community resources, and collaborates with outside agencies when needed.
- Communicates goals, intervention plans, and progress effectively with staff and families.
- Completes required documentation and adheres to district procedures for student services.
- Supports implementation of mandated requirements such as Erin's Law and Ann Marie's Law.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Social Work endorsement required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience working in school settings preferred.
- Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master's Degree preferred.
Long‑term sub rate - $209 per day
