JOB SUMMARYThe purpose of this position is to respond to CCWA emergency calls, customer complaints, construction accidents, and other problems that occur throughout the water service system in order to assess the situation and to initiate corrective action.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Responds to calls regarding problems with broken water lines, broken wastewater lines, and customer complaints.
- Talks to customers and works towards fixing the issues they have.
- Responds to calls made from outside contractors who may have damaged water or wastewater main lines.
- Provides information regarding and/or explaining service problems to customers.
- Assesses the situation and identifies needed repairs; relays information to foreman to dispatch repair crews; and generates work orders to dispatch repair crews or completes repairs.
- Assists other departments as needed, which includes removing locks, installing meters, and turning meters on and off.
- Once responding to a call, fixes any leaks found that are the responsibility of Clayton County Water Authority.
- Takes materials to repair crews; assists crews in turning off main waterlines, flushing hydrants, or providing other physical help awoods the issue.
- Coordinates with Crew Leaders to organize and assist crew activities in repair system problems; flags and/or marks repair area; and utilizes hydraulic cleaning trailer and CCTV camera and related equipment.
- May perform small repairs to system and test field pressures.
- Maintains a log of responses to calls and actions taken: completes work orders; and conducts manhole inspections.
- Locates lines; maintains records showing location of manholes and air relief valves; and assists in excavation projects.
- Properly stocks and maintains tools/equipment on work truck.
- Uses City Works system to generate service requests, generate work orders, read the map, and find general information for the customers.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with Department/Division operations within designated time frames and per established procedures.
- Works on‑call as scheduled.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- High School diploma or GED; two (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair of water/wastewater utility lines and systems; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Water Distribution System Operator certification/license.
- This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, then he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
- Tasks typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing; tasks may also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate
OO orally.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as(APEP, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, and rude/irate customers.
