PositionSummary
The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for the surgery coordination and education of services for our patients. Responsibilities include premium services conversion, surgery scheduling, paperwork, and patient coordination of all procedures provided by our doctors. Must be extremely organized, detail‑oriented, a strong team player, and an effective communicator.
Responsibilities- Create, scan and file surgery charts.
- Provide patients with pre‑op and postoperative counseling.
- Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff, both within the clinic/ASC and at outside facilities, providing accurate, timely and responsive information.
- Coordinate processes and route all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements and provide accurate, thorough, and complete documentation.
- Return and respond to all calls.
- Be knowledgeable regarding co‑management with referring providers and ensure compliance with the scheduling of post‑operative visits.
- Help with ancillary tasks including following up with patients that no‑show or cancel surgical appointments, sending H&P orders and consents to outside hospitals, updating surgical scheduler protocol handbook, editing consents and documents as processes change, and providing training sessions with our physicians.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgery Coordinator, preferably for an ophthalmology physician with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with EMR software (ophthalmology specific software preferred).
- Experience with patient customer service, familiar with obtaining authorizations and referrals.
- Knowledge of contracted insurance plans and procedures.
- Ability to work with Excel, Word, and medical software.
- Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to multi‑task efficiently and effectively.
- Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
- Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers.
- Highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the office. Knowledge and adherence to HIPAA, compliance, OSHA.
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision, skill in exercising initiative, judgment, discretion and decision‑making to achieve practice objectives.
