Position Information
This is skilled work with responsibility for operating a variety of heavy equipment. Specific duties include operating a knuckle boom truck, tractor trailer, front‑end loader, and other types of trucks and equipment in the Earth Products Recycling Program. Other duties include performing preventive maintenance on equipment; assisting with leaf collection and snow removal operations; and performing related duties as required.

Minimum:
Two years of experience operating heavy automotive or related equipment.
Desirable:
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following: — experience operating a tractor trailer in a landfill environment; and/or — experience operating heavy construction equipment such as a front‑end loader or knuckle boom truck.
- Applicant must possess or obtain by the time of interview a Class "A" commercial driver's license from the applicant's place of residence.
- The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or must provide a copy of the official state/district driving record.
- Prior to the time of appointment the successful applicant must pass a pre‑employment drug screening. The successful applicant will be subject to drug screening as required by federal, state and local standards and policies.
- Any offer of employment is contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record and passing a pre‑employment drug screening and alcohol breath test as required by applicable standards.
- Applicant must have the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Work Hours:
Work schedule will be one of four shifts: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; or 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work on some weekends and holidays will be required. Must be available for overtime during leaf collection, brush collection, and snow removal.

Permanent, Full‑Time AppointmentsAll jobs are permanent, full‑time appointments unless otherwise stated in the announcement. The following benefits are available.
Paid LeaveVacation leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. Leave accrual increases every three years until eight hours of leave are earned biweekly for twelve or more years of service. Sick leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. There are eleven paid holidays each year.
