Description and RequirementsThis engineering role is a key component of Lenovo's new product introduction within the ISG (Infrastructure Solutions Group) development team. Engineers in this role will validate & optimize the performance of CPUs, memory, PCIe, network, and storage devices on current and next generation servers. This is a hands‑on role in which individuals will be expected to identify, solve, report, and track performance‑related issues and optimizations, driving them to resolution.
Requirements for the role include strong skills related to server configuration, UEFI & BMC settings, operating systems, scripts, detailed specifications, and various software packages including internal and external tools and benchmarks, such as those from SPEC.
Lenovo SPV (System Performance Validation) engineers will evaluate low‑level server performance and provide performance‑related collateral & support for development, marketing, sales, and customer engagement teams. They will work closely with suppliers such as Intel, AMD, & Broadcom, as well as with peer performance benchmarking teams, to optimize server performance and achieve world‑record benchmark results.
Maintaining & advancing technical specification documents, including specifying and driving improvements.
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge in x86 computer architecture and awareness of peripheral components such as Network card, RAID card, GPU, Storage devices, Processor, and Memory
- Previous experience working with AMD or Intel servers.
- Detailed understanding of NUMA, affinization, and performance tuning
- At least 5 years of experience working and using Linux commands for operating systems such as Red Hat, Suse, Ubunto, and CentOS.
- At least 4 years experience using UEFI or BIOS equipped system, In addition to experience documenting technical findings from test / debug and review of specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in UEFI design
- Candidate should have the skills needed to write script for auto execution -- ideally, at least 2+ years experience developing test automation using C,C++, Python, Perl or XML.
