Company Overview
Susteon develops and commercializes advanced materials and systems for carbon capture and conversion. Our work focuses on translating deep technical innovations into deployable, economically viable technologies. Sustenol™ is Susteon’s proprietary solvent platform for post-combustion CO₂ capture, designed for improved capture efficiency, lower energy consumption, stability, and scalability relative to incumbent solutions.
Position OverviewSusteon is seeking an experienced Technology Manager to lead the end-to-end development, scale-up, and demonstration of the Sustenol™ solvent platform. This role owns the execution of Sustenol across its full lifecycle—from laboratory development and pilot testing through external demonstrations and early commercial deployment. The Technology Manager will report to the CEO of Susteon and will serve as the single point of accountability for Sustenol program execution, coordinating internal technical teams, external testing facilities (including the National Carbon Capture Center (NCCC) and Technology Center Mongstad (TCM), Norway), manufacturing partners, and other stakeholders to ensure technical progress aligns with business and commercialization objectives.
This is a hands-on, execution-oriented role suited for someone comfortable operating at the intersection of R&D, process engineering, field testing, and early-stage commercialization.
- Own the integrated development plan for the Sustenol™ solvent, including technical milestones, scale-up strategy, testing roadmap, and external demonstrations
- Translate company objectives into executable project plans spanning lab, bench, pilot, and field testing
- Ensure alignment between R&D priorities, demonstration outcomes, and commercial readiness
- Coordinate laboratory optimization, pilot-scale testing, third-party testing, and solvent production scale-up activities
- Manage interfaces between R&D, process engineering, analytical teams, and solvent manufacturing partners
- Oversee solvent supply logistics, handling protocols, and performance benchmarking
- Plan and execute external testing campaigns, including NCCC and TCM, and other utility sites or partner facilities
- Serve as Susteon’s primary technical and operational interface with host sites
- Lead test planning, site integration, commissioning, execution, and close-out activities
- Coordinate internal teams across engineering, operations, EH&S, and data analysis
- Maintain schedules, budgets, and resource plans across multiple concurrent work streams
- Direct experimental research and characterization. Bridge lab data and process modeling:
Ensure experimental results are validated against theory, discrepancies are resolved through data or model refinement, and predictive models reliably support future opportunity assessment. - Drive decision-making in ambiguous or first-of-kind development environments
- Interface with DOE program managers, host facilities, and strategic partners as required
- Prepare technical progress updates, test reports, and post-demonstration summaries
- Package results into clear narratives to support customer engagement and commercialization discussions
- Identify technical, operational, and schedule risks across the Sustenol program and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements at all stages of development
- Maintain high standards for data quality, documentation, and reproducibility
- Support transition from demonstration to customer pilots and early deployment
- Coordinate with business development to align testing objectives with customer requirements
- Help define performance, cost, and operability metrics relevant to commercial adoption
- Master’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline (Ph.D. preferred)
- 7+ years of experience amine solvent development, managing chemical process development, pilot plants, demonstrations, or…
