Staff Scientist Formulation Development

Position Overview

Execute the design and development of solid, liquid, semisolid, and novel drug delivery dosage forms for the BCH categories under minimal supervision. You will manage projects in formulation development to ensure stable formulas and on‑time delivery. Your role involves developing formulations and creating product dossiers for new products, ensuring all formulation development work is performed effectively, according to agreed timelines, and at a high level of quality.

You will manage a portfolio of projects, prioritizing activities to deliver on commitments efficiently. Additionally, you will play an active role in contributing to innovation by turning ideas into prototypes, evaluating external new technologies and drug delivery methods, and presenting new product ideas to commercial teams.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage a portfolio of Formulation Development Projects;

  • Identify and manage Formulation Development strategies for assigned projects;

  • Develop and communicate timelines and costs for Formulation Development projects;

  • Identify and escalation risks to Technical Sub‑Team and Core Project Team;

  • Provide oversight of junior-level Formulation Development colleagues to execute experimental plans and batch manufacturing;

  • Coordinate and execute laboratory development activities;

  • Execute external development activities by providing technical leadership and accountability for delivering timing commitments;

  • Present sub-team recommendations, conclusions, and challenges to Technical Leads;

  • Lead development and/or author technical documentation to support launch and regulatory approval of projects;

  • Recommend formulations consistent with business priorities;

  • Work with Analytical Development to determine experimental and stability test requirements;

  • Ensure Formulation Reports are written and approved;

  • Lead ideations based on category innovation strategy or consumer insights;

  • Attend product research to understand consumer feedback on new products;

  • Make prototypes against new product ideas;

  • Present new product ideas and prototypes to category teams;

  • Actively search for external new drug delivery technologies for new product applications;

  • Contribute to product development strategy and plan;

  • Incorporate Formulation Development feedback into Stage Gate Documents;

  • Represent R&D on technical sub-teams, cross‑functional teams, and core project teams;

  • Ensure that the Technical Sub‑Team, core team, and senior management have an accurate view of technical risks and challenges.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

  • Required:

    Bachelor’s Degree;

  • Proficient in managing formulation development projects and strategies;

  • Strong ability to communicate timelines and costs effectively;

  • Skilled in identifying and escalating project risks;

  • Experience in providing technical leadership and accountability in external development activities;

  • Capable of leading and authoring technical documentation for regulatory approval;

  • Innovative mindset with the ability to turn ideas into prototypes;

  • Strong collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Chemistry;
