Macculloch Hall Historical Museum (MHHM) preserves the history of the Macculloch-Miller families, the Morris area community, and the legacy of founder W. Parsons Todd through its historic site, collections, exhibits, and diverse programs. Located in Morristown’s National Historic District, MHHM is an 1810 Federal‑style mansion with period rooms, exhibit galleries, and historic gardens, featuring a significant collection of works by 19th‑century political cartoonist Thomas Nast.
The museum emphasizes public history by maintaining accessible, fact‑based, and professionally curated educational resources. MHHM is committed to fostering civic engagement and informed historical understanding, adhering to standards set by national associations.
Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is seeking two enthusiastic and motivated Education Interns to join our team for Summer 2026. In this role, you will support engaging garden and art experiences for children and young adults in our beautiful historic gardens as part of our signature summer programs. Our Make It! Grow It! Learn It! children’s program and our all‑ages Family Program blends history, science, environmental awareness, and the arts, giving participants an inspiring space to explore, create, and discover.
This internship may be taken for course credit as determined by the appropriate college or university representative.
- Welcome and assist visitors participating in a variety of MHHM programs
- Work with children, teens, and young adults in small groups during garden and art activities led by Museum staff and teaching artists
- Prepare materials and supplies for summer education programs
- Assist with setup for programs, arriving prior to start times, and help with cleanup afterward
- Help care for the Museum’s 2‑acre historic garden and teaching beds of vegetables, herbs, and flowers
- Photograph summer programs, garden activities, and special events (in alignment with photo permissions)
- Assist with creating visual and written content for MHHM’s social media and digital publication platforms
- Maintain program databases and assist with tracking attendance and participation statistics for evaluation and reporting purposes
- Contribute to a welcoming, positive environment by working collaboratively with Museum staff and community partners
- Currently enrolled in a college or university, or comparable academic program
- Interest in museum education, public history, gardening, arts education, youth engagement, or related fields
- Experience working with children and/or teens preferred
- Passion for engaging young learners in hands‑on experiences
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Punctual, reliable, and flexible
- Comfortable working outdoors in summer conditions
- 21 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks
- Internship runs Wednesday, June 3 – Saturday, August 8, 2026 (includes Saturdays)
- The opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in museum education, gardening, and public programming in a historic setting
