Histotechnologist, Evenings, ACL

Shift: Evenings

• Performs STAT and routine histological procedures prior to microscopic study and diagnosis by the Pathologist.
• Processes and embeds tissue in paraffin and cuts paraffin blocks using microtomes at correct setting.
• Ensures proper tissue processing and maintains the integrity of tissue through the pre‑analytic to post‑analytic phase.
• Involved in maintenance of all laboratory equipment and follows Standard Operating Procedures.
• Prepares stains and solutions, stains prepared tissue by using routine, special and immunohistochemical staining processes.
• Coverslips and evaluates microscopically the quality of stains and sections.
• Performs complex histologic procedures and analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
• Performs immunohistochemical, immunofluorescence, special stains, and frozen section studies.
• Ensures compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
• Obtains and validates tissue used in special stains and ensures all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
• Maintains equipment for proper functioning, quality control and supply inventories and maintains supplies and ensures clean work environment according to hospital's standard protocols.
• Participates in inter‑shift coverage for time off, emergencies and holidays.
• Prepares slides and blocks maintaining patient identification according to lab practices and contributes to monthly Quality Assurance.
• Accurately match and label specimen container with requisition for surgical number and accurately correlate cassettes with surgical number.
• Other relevant duties as assigned by Management.

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological, Chemical or Life Science required.
• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program.
• HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP).

• Minimum of 1 year experience as a HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP).
• Experience in IHC (Immunohistochemistry) highly preferred.
• Skillful knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Laboratory Information Systems and Hospital Health Care Management Systems.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Requires a high level of organizational and time management skills.
