Therapeutic Support Assistant

Are you passionate about nurturing children’s emotional wellbeing and helping them thrive in a supportive, therapeutic environment?
Are you ready to make a meaningful impact at a school dedicated to transforming young lives?

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Therapeutic Support Assistants to join our team across the Newcastle & Northumberland area. This vital role focuses on supporting children with SEND and SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions, build resilience, and engage positively with their learning.

You’ll work closely with teaching staff and therapists to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child feels understood and valued.

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

What You Need
  • Experience supporting children or young people, ideally within a SEND or SEMH setting

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with pupils, parents, and colleagues

  • The ability to provide two recent references (work-based or educational)

  • A proactive, empathetic approach and a genuine commitment to supporting young people’s wellbeing

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic and emotional support to children within the classroom and wider school environment

  • Assist in implementing individualised support strategies that promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Engage children in therapeutic play and creative activities to build confidence and self-expression

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure consistent support

  • Monitor children’s progress and adapt strategies to meet their developing needs

  • Support with pastoral care and ensure pupils feel safe, secure, and ready to learn

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers, sharing insights and celebrating achievements

Why Join Us?

You’ll be part of a warm, inclusive team that values creativity, compassion, and collaboration. This is an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of children who benefit from emotional and therapeutic support — helping them build the confidence and skills to succeed both in and beyond the classroom.
