Course Overview

Pikewood National Golf Club, located southeast of Morgantown, WV, has been ranked by Forbes Magazine as #2 among “The Five Hardest Golf Courses in the U.S.” and by Golf Digest as #18 among “America’s 20 Hardest Golf Courses”, #79 among “The World Top 200 Greatest Courses” in 2018, # 31 among “America's Greatest 100 Golf Courses” in 2021, and “Best New Private Course” in 2009.

Pikewood National is a private 18 hole golf course which is highly exclusive to members who enjoy golf at its purest state. This is a great opportunity to work with a crew that is highly motivated to become successful in this industry. The grass varieties at Pikewood National are:
Greens (A1/A4 bentgrass), Approaches, Tees, Fairways (L93), Rough (Kentucky bluegrass and fescue mix), and Native areas (fescue).

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual who is looking to eventually become a Golf Course Superintendent. This candidate should be a self-starter who takes pride in his/her work ethic and values the importance of being a team player. This position will expose the candidate to a wide variety of turf practices.

The Pikewood Turf Crew understands the importance of sound agronomic practices.

• Must have strong business supports required for golf business.
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• 0-2 years experience in turfgrass industry.
• Degree in turfgrass science or related field is preferred but not required.

• Daily mowing of all playing surfaces with walk-behind units and riding units.
• Proper water management (hand watering, etc.)
• Fertilizer and chemical applications (proper calibration and techniques)
• Proper course set up (daily hole and tee locations and detail work).
• Cultural practices (topdressing, aerification, etc.)
• Irrigation maintenance (irrigation head fixes, pipe repairs, locating/troubleshooting wiring issues)
• Learning how to manage according to the weather.
• Communicate well with the crew, management and members.
• Carry oneself with professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.
• Understand the importance of networking, career preparation, and record keeping.
