Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Telemetry position on a Level 1 Trauma unit, requiring a WV or compact RN license and strong critical care skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 24-bed stepdown unit within an acute Level 1 Trauma Center
- Patient population includes trauma, medical/surgical, neuro, respiratory compromised, and complex wound cases
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 with support from clinical associates and nurse aides
- All 24 beds have state-of-the-art monitoring and centralized telemetry tech support
- Night shift position, 12-hour shifts (7:00pm – 7:30am), including every other weekend and holiday rotations
- Necessary floating will occur on a rotational basis with other staff
- No on-call responsibilities required
- Uses Epic EMR
- Care for trauma patients with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, complex fractures, and general med/surg cases
- Manage patients with bipap, cpap, tracheostomies, and chronic vent dependence
- Specialize in advanced diabetic management and reconstructive surgery care
- 11 rooms equipped with in-ceiling lifts to promote early patient mobility
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Unit-based orientation provided with clinical preceptor
- Clinical charge nurse and house supervisors available 24/7
- Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
- Not open to local candidates within a 50-mile radius
- Former staff or travelers must have been gone at least two years before returning
- Active WV or compact RN license in hand
- Minimum of 2 years of stepdown, telemetry, or critical care nursing experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Basic EKG interpretation skills required
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips (e.g., cardizem, labetalol, amiodarone; no sedative drips)
- Must have assessment skills suited for a fast-paced and adaptable work environment
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility for eligibility
