Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown and General Surgery Med/Surg position specializing in trauma, bariatric, and complex surgical care at an acute care facility.
Responsibilities- Work on a combined Stepdown and General Surgery Med/Surg inpatient unit with 30-33 beds
- Patient population includes trauma, TBI, fractures, general and bariatric surgery, and complex medical-surgical cases
- Patient ratios are 1:6 for floor patients and 1:3 for stepdown patients
- Care for patients with complex wound care, drains, chest tubes, and respiratory support devices
- Utilizes EPIC EMR system
- Weekend night shifts:
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 12-hour shifts - Floating to similar floor/stepdown units is required
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Unit is recognized as a Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgical, medical, rehab, and care management services
- Free charge nurse and house supervisor support available 24/7
- Respiratory therapy support available at all times
- Monitor techs available; RNs must confirm and interpret telemetry strips
- Holiday coverage will be scheduled as needed with permanent staff
- First time travelers are accepted for this position
- Unit offers the opportunity to practice nursing at a high level in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in acute care settings
- Current BLS certification required
- Experience with complex wound care, drains, traumatic injuries, chest tubes, respiratory support, and spinal cord injuries is required
- Ability to read and validate EKG strips
- COVID-19 vaccine required unless valid medical or religious exemption is approved
- Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
- Previous permanent employees or travelers must have a 2-year break before returning
