Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a RN for a Stepdown unit weekend night position, requiring at least one year of experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 29-bed Stepdown/Med-Surg unit in an acute care setting

• Flex unit serves both floor (med-surg) and step-down patients based on patient and hospital needs

• Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses

• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for med-surg

• RNs are required to titrate drips such as heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, and PCA opioids

• Patient care includes use of CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators (for ventilators, adjustments are done in ICU)

• Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment used; central monitoring available, RNs are not required to read their own strips

• Uses Epic EMR system

• 12-hour night shifts, scheduled weekends (Friday–Sunday or Saturday–Monday), 7:00pm–7:30am

• Floating required to other floor or stepdown units, travelers float first

• No on-call or standby required

• Expect to work approximately half of all recognized holidays

• Royal blue and white scrubs required

• Charge RNs and House Supervisors available 24/7; charge RNs may take assignments initially

• Clinical Associates (nurse aides) provide additional support on unit

• No local travelers accepted; must live more than 50 miles from the facility

• Previous employees of WVU Medicine facilities must have a two-year break before returning as travelers

• Travelers may not work within WVU for more than one year without a two-year break

• First time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license

• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications

• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required

• Ability to manage patient ratios up to 6:1 on med-surg and 3:1 on stepdown

• Experience with titrating critical drips is required

• Must be comfortable using Epic EMR

• Required to pass EKG testing for stepdown assignments
