Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, computer science, business, informatics or a related field AND at least 3 years of experience performing similar duties in an information technology department.
  • Alternatively, high school diploma or equivalent AND at least 7 years of experience performing similar duties in an information technology department.
  • Additional certifications may be required; certification completion may be mandated within a defined period of time with formal training documentation.
  • Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in their current position to qualify for promotion within IT.
Experience
  • Experience supporting day‑to‑day activities in an IT department is required to lead a team to operational, project, and customer success.
  • Technical expertise may vary depending on departmental needs, including software development, application support, HL7 interfaces, and more.

  • Experience leading an IT team in operations, projects, and customer success.
  • Background in software development, application support, HL7 interfaces, and related areas.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Foster curiosity, answer questions on improving processes and systems, support manager in hiring, provide professional development, ensure team focus on organizational goals, implement process improvements, conduct self‑education, and guide internal teams and customers.
  • Problem Identification and Resolution: Oversee daily production issues, develop test scripts, ensure documentation, diagnose and resolve outages, restore system performance during crises.
  • System Management: Evaluate and document operational performance, use specialized analysis tools such as reporting workbench, report writers, Chronicle, SQL, and advanced Excel macros; participate in vendor demos, RFP/RFI activities, and budget reviews.
  • Project Coordination: Assist manager with project assignments, resource allocation, effort estimates, milestones, and resolution of roadblocks; generate status reports and coordinate vendor calls.
  • Team Building: Onboard new hires, improve turnaround times, foster collaboration, develop processes, lead meetings with agendas and minutes.

    Education:

    Conduct training sessions, mentor staff, develop curricula, and participate in strategic planning for system training environments.
  • Perform complex system analyses and design across multiple platforms; develop innovative solutions for business and clinical processes.
  • Adhere to WVUHS policies and those of the entity where the team is assigned.
  • Manage team operations, including workload, payroll, career growth, and project coordination to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Provide application support and deployment for HR/ER/Business Applications and clinical applications such as PACS, EMR‑Epic, Cardiology, Lab, Pharmacy, and data management.
  • Supervise hardware, Unix/Linux, storage, and application support; coordinate upgrades and budget plans.
  • Manage end‑user device security, system logs, and SIEM activities.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping may be required.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Working Environment
  • Standard office environment.
  • On‑call responsibilities may require phone calls or onsite action per department policy.
  • Travel to other WVUHS facilities or affiliated sites may be required for implementations, training, and support.
