POSITION SUMMARY
:
The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of surgery/transplant patients, (including biological, social and psychological assessments). The APP coordinates involvement of medical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and coordinates discharge planning (as applicable).
The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.
Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such services may include, but are not limited to the following:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSUREGraduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing
National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
Licensure or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
Department Specific: APRNs requesting to be privileged as First Assists are required to complete RNFA certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of the department.
EXPERIENCEEligible new graduates will be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSTransplant Surgery, Acute Care Medical/Surgical Experience Preferred.
AGACNP or AGCNS preferred, but FNP will be considered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
Bachelor’s Degree as Physician Assistant required.
Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program required.
Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of the department.
Master’s level degree as Physician Assistant preferred.
Transplant Surgery, Acute Care Medical/Surgical Experience Preferred.

- Manages comprehensive and individualized care for surgical/transplant patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization and post discharge in the ambulatory setting (as applicable).
- Completes daily rounds; consults; discharges and/or procedure; pre- and post-surgical management and coordination of care for the service.
- Complete pre-procedural/surgical evaluations. Serve in the perioperative arena including but not limited to OR First Assist in the operating suite.
