Medical Front Office - Patient Service Specialist - Float
Responsible for scheduling, canceling, rescheduling, and registering outpatient visits and procedures for multiple ambulatory clinics, collecting all necessary information for schedule and registration preparation.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Checks in and checks out patients in accordance with scheduling/registration guidelines, prioritizing according to patient needs.
- Obtains and verifies patient guarantor information at least once a year to ensure records are up-to-date. Generates referrals or authorizations when needed.
- Schedules and registers patients/customers based on scheduling guidelines and medical appropriateness within the appropriate clinic.
- Ensures all follow-up appointments and testing are coordinated upon check‑out.
- Obtains all necessary information from patient/customer for appointment scheduling and registration.
- Identifies and communicates need for scheduling modifications and development.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of scheduling changes due to cancellations promptly.
- Handles patient and staff complaints appropriately, involving supervisors and patient representatives as needed.
- Consults with referring physicians to ensure written or electronic orders exist; verifies completeness of written orders and documents outside orders as needed.
- Collects time of service payments and copayments during check‑in or check‑out.
- Reconciles cash drawer and reports discrepancies to supervisor or manager.
- Collects signatures on waivers for managed care at check‑in.
- Completes Workques and other daily tasks for the scheduling area.
- Responds to all patient communication promptly.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
