Responsibilities- Perform and analyze clinical laboratory tests in all laboratory disciplines according to standard operating policies and procedures.
- Understand method principles, perform quality control and preventative maintenance, and review, analyze, and verify results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
- Maintain laboratory instruments, adjust settings as needed, and conduct quality control summaries.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as required and complete all forms and reports.
- Interact with healthcare workers to solve problems, interpret patient results, and contribute to patient care.
- Recognize testing inconsistencies, take corrective action, and maintain accurate specimen records.
- Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines for safety, security, infection control, and workplace health.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
- State licensure, if required by the practice state (Medical Laboratory Scientist license or Trainee license for WV).
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science, or a bachelor’s degree in a related chemical or biological science, or 30+ years of experience under the CLIA grandfathered exception.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Previous experience as a Medical Technologist.
- Requires strength, stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying equipment.
- May sit for extended periods.
- Work around strong or unpleasant odors.
- Potential exposure to agents that may cause serious disease.
- Multi-tasking and handling stressful situations.
- Effective communication.
- Teamwork with co-workers, supervisors, and patients.
- Basic computer skills.
Job Description
The position will include 10–12 weeks of dayshift training in Hematology and Blood Bank. After training, the employee will work evenings, including rotating weekends and holidays.
Applicants should hold a degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science and have one year of full‑time clinical laboratory experience to qualify for state licensure. Licensure must be obtained within 90 days of hire (30 days preferred).
