Emma Kaufmann Camp (EKC) is a co‑ed overnight Camp on Cheat Lake in Morgantown, West Virginia. We’re part of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh and serve campers ages 7 to 16. EKC is built on friendship, community, personal growth, and the joy of camp. Our staff help create a supportive environment where campers can be themselves and explore Jewish life in meaningful and engaging ways.
OverviewWe’re looking for a creative educator who loves camp and knows how powerful Jewish experiences can be in an immersive, pluralistic setting. The Jewish Life Coordinator helps weave Jewish learning and living throughout daily Camp life, partnering with staff at every level to shape a warm, inclusive, and vibrant Jewish environment. Care and consideration is given to each candidate’s summer availability, including flexibility in working around start and end dates due to schoolwork or other employment opportunities.
The Jewish Educator will report to the Camp Leadership Team. This position is an “in‑residence” position and requires living at Camp throughout the summer.
- Be a central resource for Jewish life at Camp:
Serve as a welcoming, accessible partner for campers and staff, helping make Jewish moments feel natural, joyful, and relevant. - Infuse Jewish learning into the flow of Camp:
Work with unit heads, counselors, and program specialists to bring Jewish content into activities, conversations, special events, and traditions. - Lead and support Shabbat experiences:
Plan and run Shabbat services and programming, and support staff who want to take leadership roles. - Work with Cornerstone Fellows:
Coach and mentor Cornerstone Fellows as they design and lead meaningful Jewish experiences. - Collaborate with our song‑leading and music team:
Help create musical moments that feel both spiritually grounded and fun. - Create engaging programs for campers ages 7–16:
Design activities that meet campers where they are Jewishly and encourage exploration, creativity, and connection. - Help prepare for the summer:
Participate in pre‑camp training, staff orientation, and planning sessions.
- Background in Jewish education (all types of backgrounds are welcomed).
- Experience with Jewish overnight camps (preferred but not required).
- Comfort working with campers and staff of all ages.
- Ability to lead in a pluralistic environment and support a wide range of Jewish backgrounds.
- Strong skills in experiential education and informal program design.
- A collaborative spirit and a positive, flexible approach to summer camp life.
- Attend Head Staff Training:
June 1 – June 14. - Attend General Staff Orientation, Dates June 14 – June 20.
- Participate in all‑staff meetings.
- Complete additional duties assigned by the Camp Leadership Team.
