Position

The West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics is seeking a Musculoskeletal Oncologic Clinician/Scientist (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) at the main campus in Morgantown, WV.

Duties
  • Practice in the area of musculoskeletal oncology with a 70% clinical component and 30% research.
  • Provide excellent patient care and actively involve in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent; eligible for state medical license.
  • Completed orthopaedic surgery residency program and musculoskeletal oncology fellowship program.
  • Board certified or eligible in orthopaedic musculoskeletal oncology. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
Clinical Focus and Research

The clinical practice focuses on all orthopaedic cancer care, including primary sarcoma care (pediatric/adult), metastatic disease, bone infections, and complex amputee care. Opportunity for complex arthroplasty exists but is not required. WVU Medicine has a multi-institutional sarcoma board that meets twice monthly and includes providers from radiation oncology, hematology/oncology (peds and adult), pathology, and orthopaedic oncology. Current research initiatives emphasize translational work in sarcoma using nanotechnology, immunotherapy, and immunodiagnostics.

We are interested in both basic science and clinical researchers.

Department and Institute

Our Department of Orthopaedics has ~40 full-time faculty across sub-specialties (spine, total joint replacement, sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, pediatrics, trauma, musculoskeletal oncology, and basic science). Faculty are fellowship-trained and committed to excellence in patient care and customer service. As part of a major academic teaching center, we use a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and education, with access to a full range of specialists.

The spine practice serves as tertiary care for the state and surrounding regions.

The WVU Cancer Institute is a top USNWR-rated cancer treatment center with multidisciplinary teams, latest therapies, and a strong clinical trials program. It serves patients from West Virginia and five neighboring states.
