Position: Deputy Municipal Court Clerk
Department: Municipal Court Clerk
Employment Status: Permanent - Part-time - Non-Exempt
Schedule: After hours On-Call: (Mon - Sun) 5:00PM – 8:00AM but may vary
Compensation: $20.00/hour
POSITION SUMMARYWorkers under the supervision of the Municipal Court Clerk. Arraigns defendants during non-office hours when the Court Clerk or Judge is unavailable. Responsible for signing warrants for officers. Performs duties in compliance with City Code, State Regulations, and departmental policies and directives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES – KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES- Prepare all forms needed to perform an arraignment.
- Arraign defendants who have been arrested.
- Must read compliant and tell defendant their rights, sign all forms and documents, have defendant sign all documents and provide information about each of the violations that the defendant may have.
- Set court date for the defendant to come in front of the Municipal Court Judge.
- Requires the ability to manage distraught and irate defendants.
- Perform other work-related duties and projects as assigned by the Municipal Court Clerk.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and legally protected information.
- Sets a bond amount for defendants to post to be released from custody.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems.
- Ability to work independently and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to type, file or lift office supplies up to 20 pounds.
- General office equipment is frequently used, including but not limited to computers, laptops, telephone and cell phone, printers, scanners, copiers, and cameras.
- Position involves frequent internal and external contact, but generally on routine matters such as furnishing or obtaining information.
- Reports to the Court Clerk.

Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation:
- High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
- One year of work experience in legal field that would enable the individual to perform the duties of the position.
- Advance user of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
