Operations Manager
Overview
This is an entry level position and will be responsible for working closely with the Director of Feed Ingredient Purchasing to source and purchase raw materials used in poultry feed manufacturing, ensuring consistent supply, optimal cost, and compliance with nutritional, quality, and biosecurity standards. This role works closely with nutrition, production, and quality teams to support efficient and cost-effective poultry feed production.
Responsibilitiesand Tasks
Procurement & Sourcing
- Help to source and purchase poultry feed ingredients such as corn, wheat, soybean meal, DDGS, fats/oils, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and additives.
- Help to negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and terms with approved suppliers.
- Monitor poultry feed commodity markets, seasonal availability, and price volatility.
- Help to develop forward-buying and risk management strategies in coordination with management.
Supplier & Market Management
- Maintain strong relationships with ingredient suppliers, traders, and brokers.
- Evaluate supplier performance on quality consistency, biosecurity compliance, and on-time delivery.
- Identify alternative suppliers and ingredients to mitigate supply risk.
Inventory, Forecasting & Coordination
- Align purchasing plans with poultry feed production forecasts and formulation requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels across feed mills to prevent shortages or excess stock.
- Coordinate inbound logistics, storage capacity, and delivery schedules.
Quality, Nutrition & Biosecurity
- Ensure all ingredients meet poultry nutritional specifications and formulation standards.
- Work closely with nutritionists to manage ingredient variability and cost optimization.
- Support quality assurance with ingredient approvals, ingredient analysis, and issue resolution.
Reporting & Cost Control
- Track ingredient costs and supplier performance.
- Prepare market updates and cost reports for management.
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in the poultry or agriculture industry.
- Willingness to have an open mind and learn.
- Basic understanding of poultry feed ingredients, formulation drivers, and market dynamics.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Basic negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Basic knowledge of poultry nutrition and feed mill operations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple suppliers and priorities.

- Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and handling papewrwork.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work in environments that may include exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures when visiting production or storage areas.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when in manufacturing or mill environments.
