Substance Use Disorder Services (SUD) Role

SUD services provide structured individual and group addiction activities at an outpatient program designed to help adults begin recovery and learn skills for maintenance. These services are offered during day and evening hours to support residents in their communities, while continuing work or school and family life.

Role: The SUD Peer Support Specialist serves individuals with SUD, using their own life experiences and professional training to help others with these conditions, and identifying and achieving specific life and recovery goals.

Job Duties
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and consultation to individuals receiving SUD services to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction.
  • Promote wellness management strategies, including delivering manualized interventions (e.g., Wellness Recovery Action Planning or Illness Management and Recovery).
  • Serve as an active member of the SUD team and facilitate the Person-Centered Plan process for individuals assigned to them.
  • Assist with planning for group sessions and lead group sessions.
  • Input in the assessment of consumer risk and develop safety plans.
  • Monitor biochemical assay results and develop appropriate interventions for positive drug screens.
Basic Requirements
  • Ability to perform tasks on the computer, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel) and other basic programs.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Pass criminal background check and other regulatory checks.
  • Provide proof of education.
Education and Experience Required
  • NC Peer Support Specialist certification
  • One (1) year of professional adult substance use work experience
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills; high proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
