General PurposeThe Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific assigned area of the Store and for general operations and supervision when functioning as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening/closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly, easy-to-shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, maintaining a clean work area, and executing company operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments- Understand safety as a priority and practice safe behaviors in all activities.
- Maintain high awareness on the sales floor to create a safe environment; immediately correct or report unsafe conditions or practices.
- Secure building: entrance/exit control, electronic article surveillance checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety: accident prevention, reporting and emergency procedures.
- Test all fire alarm systems; respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize associates using company recognition programs.
- Represent and support the company brand.
- Maintain a professional appearance per dress code; enforce dress code for all associates.
- Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Responsible for daily trash removal.
- Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns meet company standards through teaching and task assignment.
- Handle receiving merchandise truck when needed; process all merchandise with urgency.
- Receive non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Keep stockrooms clean and organized; secure and process back‑stock.
- Merchandise departments and back‑stock; reduce loss from damage; comply with monthly presentation guidelines.
- Perform floor moves, signing, including promotional signing, and re‑wraps.
- Execute loss prevention awareness program and maintain strong customer service presence.
- Demonstrate integrity; safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card and merchandise.
- Maintain PVM system.
- Conduct “code” package inspections and execute company best practices.
- Execute best practices, minimize steps, and ensure associates meet company standards.
- Maintain pace, energy and presence; manage line to reduce wait times.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control and other front‑end procedures.
- Control associates' break schedule for backups, lunches and breaks.
- Ensure all equipment works properly; maintain supplies and recovery for the front end.
- Expedite go‑backs, ensuring proper scanning, tagging and ticketing.
- Teach “Scan and Bag” best practice; ensure salability of merchandise on the front end.
