Overview

The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Emergency Room Department is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II in Moreno Valley.

Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician, performs nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in the care of patients in the Acute Care or Emergency Department; and perform other related duties as required.

The most competitive candidates must have at least 6 months of Emergency Department Technician (EDT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) experience in an acute care hospital or emergency department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; prepare patients for physicians, registered nurses, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners; care for patients during treatment; administer medications using subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, subdermal, and/or oral methods.
  • Take temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; apply and change dressings; assist with wound care and specimen collection; assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid-level providers with examinations and other treatments.
  • Perform venipuncture, injections of medications including immunizations for pediatrics and adults; perform Tuberculin, Coccidioidin, and Histoplasmin skin tests as part of tuberculosis control.
  • Document within the Nurse Practice Act and established charting rules; chart treatments and medications; maintain medical records; collect data to ensure scheduling with appropriate services; maintain clinical records and charge tickets; review charts for appropriate treatment and continuity of care.
  • Counsel, educate, and refer patients for health care services; set clinic appointments; refer to outside specialists as needed with appropriate payor referrals.
  • Assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid-level providers in administering special treatments, examinations, and intravenous therapy; chart treatments and medications and maintain records.
  • Assist in data collection, preparation, and implementation of patient care plans; participate in patient education and rehabilitation programs and document data.
  • Observe patients’ condition and behavior; report significant changes to the supervisor.
  • May act under supervision as a nursing leader over health services assistants, certified medical assistants, office assistants and other LVNs, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse I — Salary range: $27.41 - $40.18 per hour
  • Experience:

    At least 6 months of Emergency Department Technician (EDT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) experience in an acute care hospital or emergency department.
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse II — Salary range: $29.01 - $42.52 per hour;

    Experience:

    At least one year of successful LVN experience, preferably in a public health clinic or acute care hospital ER setting.
  • Knowledge:
    Current principles, techniques and procedures for vocational nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act; medical terminology; acute care procedures and equipment; medication administration and related policies.
  • Ability:
    Perform the full range of LVN duties; follow policies; establish and maintain effective working relationships; maintain patient records; observe and report conditions accurately.
  • Other requirements:
    Possession of a valid California LVN license; BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS and CPI certifications required upon hire.
