Position: Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - MSC Recovery (PACU)

Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - MSC Recovery (PACU) (Finance)

The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Medical Center located in Moreno Valley is recruiting an experienced Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC for the MSC Recovery (PACU) Department. The RN is responsible for independent peri‑anesthetic management of a complex, varied surgical and procedural population.

Under supervision, the incumbent will care for pre‑ and post‑operative patients, perform professional nursing duties, assist physicians and carry out their orders, coordinate a continuum of care for a selected group of patients from pre‑admission through post‑discharge, and undertake other related duties as required.

Responsibilities
  • Re‑assess patient for safety issues throughout the perioperative period.
  • Utilize the nursing process to provide quality patient care.
  • Follow medication administration rights by verifying orders, retrieving medications for the correct patient, properly labeling medications, and wasting medications as required.
  • Document clearly, accurately, in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Care for a post‑surgical patient.
  • Assess patient readiness for discharge.
  • Perform Phase I and Phase II, and discharge home.
  • Provide discharge instructions.
License and Certificates Required
  • Current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Professional Experience
  • One (1) year or more of Medical/Surgical ICU or Emergency Department experience required; current PACU experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
Additional Differentials
  • Critical Care - $4.00 per hour

5/40 – Monday to Friday

Hours:

10:00 am to 6:30 pm

  • Within the full scope of the Nurse Practice Act, assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of, and prepare patients for surgical procedures. After surgery, receive patient monitoring through phase I, phase II and discharge planning.
  • As directed, administer or dispense prescribed treatment and medications to patients; chart treatment and dispensing to patients, and record and report significant changes in condition and general progress of patient.
  • Provide discharge instructions prior discharge.
  • Prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physicians' orders.
  • May participate in quality assurance reviews; may act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.
  • Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs.
  • May testify in court as to the client's mental and physical condition; may recommend initiating conservatorship investigations when assigned to the mental health setting.
  • May coordinate and monitor patients through the hospitalization process utilizing physicians, primary care nurses, and third‑party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility.
  • May review the post‑hospital care plan with the patient/family, establishing a contact regarding time frames and responsibilities; follow plan through discharge.
