Position: Registered Nurse III – MC/CHC – MSC Recovery (PACU)

The Riverside University Health System’s, (RUHS), Medical Center is currently recruiting for an experienced Registered Nurse III-MC/CHC position for the MSC Recovery (PACU) Department. Under supervision, the incumbent will care for pre and post-OP patients; perform professional nursing duties in the care and services to patients and their families at the Riverside University Health System-Medical Center (RUHS-MC), Community Health Clinics (CHC) or other RUHS locations as assigned, assist physicians and carry out their orders, coordinate a continuum of care for a selected group of patients from pre-admission through post-discharge, and other related duties as required.

This position is located in Moreno Valley and will be responsible for the following:

  • Re-assesses patient for safety issues throughout perioperative period
  • Utilizes the nursing process to provide quality patient care
  • Follow right of medication administration
  • Checking orders, pulling medications form correct patients, label medications, wasting medications as required
  • Documents clearly, accurately in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Care for a post-surgical patient
  • Assess patient readiness for discharge
  • Perform Phase I and II, and discharge home
  • Provide discharge instructions
  • The RN is responsible for independent peri-anesthetic management of a complex, varied surgical and procedural population.
  • The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care for surgical patients who may also have underlying medical and emotional problems. With advanced decision making, he/she must make skilled and advanced assessments and act in a preventive measure to assimilate patient needs, establish priorities, and minimize complication.

This full-time position requires the following license and certifications:

  • A current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

The most competitive candidates will possess the following professional experience:

  • One (1) year or more of Medical/Surgical ICU or Emergency Department experience required and current PACU experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Additional Differentials:

  • Critical Care – $4.00 per hour
  • Critical Care differentials will be applied following completion of required specialty training, attainment of all necessary certifications, and departmental determination that the employee is authorized to work independently.

5/40 – Monday to Friday

  • Within the full scope of the Nurse Practice Act, assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of, and prepare patients for surgical procedures. After surgery, receive patient monitoring through phase I, phase II and discharge planning.

  • As directed, administer or dispense prescribed treatment and medications to patients; chart treatment and dispensing to patients, and record and report significant changes in condition and general progress of patient.

  • Provide discharge instructions prior discharge.

  • Prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physicians’ orders.
