Construction Inspector - Part-Time (Electric Utility)

OpportunityPart‑time Construction Inspector role to support meter reading, field inspections and utility marking. The position primarily involves visiting residential and commercial properties to accurately record utility meter readings, ensuring timely and precise data collection, and supporting utility inspections and marking needs across the City.
Note: This is an at‑will, seasonal, part‑time position without benefits. Positions may end at any time, and there is no guarantee of hours. Work hours are scheduled based on operational need and typically do not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year from July 1 through June 30, unless further authorized. Incumbents may be required to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, holidays, weekends, and split shifts.
Key Responsibilities- Perform meter reading duties at residential and commercial properties.
- Assist with construction field inspections.
- Process utility marking requests as needed.
- Accurately record utility meter readings and identify discrepancies.
- Work independently in the field, managing time to complete assignments.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Two years of experience in construction inspection, or six years of trades experience on large public works construction projects; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Preferred experience in a government setting, especially with an electric utility agency.
- Ability to walk or drive between locations and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with residents.
- Basic understanding of construction standards and inspection procedures.
- Familiarity with technology, including handheld devices or software for data entry and reporting.
The Moreno Valley Utility (MVU) manages the operation, maintenance, and business planning of the City’s electric utility. The City began serving new customers in February 2004, providing safe, reliable, and economical public electric service with a focus on innovative customer solutions, infrastructure enhancement, community development, and environmentally responsible resource management.
