Assists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customers’ questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.
Essential Functions- Customer Service (80%)
- Rings up sales, collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares and delivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
- Explains store policy and responds to questions regarding pricing and purchasing; ensures all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
- Assists customers donating items by directing to loading/unloading areas, hauling donations to storage, and providing tax receipts as needed.
- Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; responds to questions and provides directions/general information; may schedule and record donation pickups.
- Store Orderliness and Cleanliness (20%)
- Maintains neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures forms, bags, and supplies are stocked.
- Arranges items in the store as directed; checks displays for neatness and order; rotates/rearranges stock as directed; returns items to proper locations after customer handling.
- Cleans display racks, shelves, floors, windows, and mirrors; keeps the store clean and inviting.
- Other Responsibilities
- Inspects donated items to ensure they meet established policies and procedures.
- Assists in pricing and tagging items according to established procedures.
- Assists customers in carrying purchased/donated items in/out of the store.
- Performs other related work as required.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
- Ability to operate a cash register, perform routine mathematical computations and count change.
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

- Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.
Duties are usually performed standing. Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Moderate physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.). Work is sometimes performed in a normal store with minimal weather or environmental discomfort.
