Summary/Objective

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who has acquired training to provide mental healthcare services to individuals, including adults and children, and families with drug abuse problems, psychiatric disorders, or organic brain disorders. This position includes diagnosing psychiatric mental health conditions and prescribing medications for patients having these conditions. This position conducts physical and psychosocial examination of its patients, and manages urgent care needs.

The Nurse Practitioner develops appropriate treatment plans and provides effect medication management. This position works as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in collaboration with psychologists, licensed therapists, case managers and mental health practitioners; it attends weekly case consultation meetings with the team.

Qualifications

This position requires a master’s degree in nursing, and be certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, as well as licensed to practice in Minnesota. It is expected that these credentials be maintained during employment.

Must be proficient in the English language, both in writing and speaking so as to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including patients, families, clinic staff and other healthcare professionals.

Must be compassionate, sensitive, and possess strong reasoning and thinking skills.

Must possess strong computer skills, including the Electronic Medical Record, the Human Resources Information System, word processing, and Excel.

Essential Functions Primary Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments
  • Prescribe appropriate medication for the treatment/management of psychiatric conditions
  • Conduct medication reviews in keeping with profession standards
  • Provide psychotherapy to identified clients
  • Attend case consultation meetings and provide consultation to the outpatient team
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complete notes for services rendered in a timely manner, in keeping with policy and the need for medical justification
  • Provide required information for billing to third party vendors (e.g., prior approval for managed care/insurance)
  • Maintain continuing education requirements for professional licensing.
  • Participate in mandatory agency trainings, as scheduled
  • Participate in policy development as requested
  • Attend Outpatient Department meetings as scheduled
  • Attendance and participation at formal case consultation meetings, four hours per month or in keeping with standards

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a clinic-based position which meets with clients in an office. Physical requirements include sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer. Under normal circumstances the employee will need to have the physical capacity to continuously use his/her hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation.

32 hours per week

Travel

This position does not include routine travel. Occasionally, there may be travel to another Solutions’ office or to a partnering agency location.
