Broadband Technician III – Overview

As a Broadband Technician III
, you will perform extremely complex installations, disconnects, and service changes for residential and business customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and support PON/Metro

E. These services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD services, and home/business phone service. You will perform advanced troubleshooting from the tap to customers’ electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem, etc.). You will be responsible for installing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable. The role requires knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within telecommunications.

Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, you must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Mooresville, NC warehouse at 420 S Academy St, Mooresville, NC 28115.

This position can be hired at either a Broadband Technician II (2025‑28429) or Broadband Technician III (2025‑28430) level, depending on your skills and qualifications. Different job postings exist for each level; please reference each posting for the required qualifications before applying.

Responsibilities
  • Performs complex installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services offered for single, multi‑family, and/or commercial dwellings.
  • Performs connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non‑pays), upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; installs additional outlets, fiber connections, hardline cutovers, and installs or removes equipment such as converters.
  • Performs all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines, including compliance with OSHA, FCC, NEC, and NESC regulations.
  • Tests equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception using locators, TDRs, FDRs, and reading system maps.
  • Monitors and records system, drop, and in‑house leakage; properly records all required information on work orders, surveys, and referrals.
  • Promotes cable, internet, and other company services; educates customers on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, and proper equipment usage.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years technical telecommunications experience – or– current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
  • 1+ year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
Other Qualifications
  • Upon hire, successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
  • Be available for on‑call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
  • Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
  • Certify proficiency in RF distribution signals, covering the network from the optical node to the distribution tap.
  • Demonstrate strong work ethic, customer service and sales skills, and effective verbal and written communication.
  • Practical computer application knowledge and familiarity with company products and services.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Expert course.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regular duties include sitting, standing, writing, operating a computer keyboard, telephone, and standard office equipment. You will frequently move about, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and may balance or climb. You may lift or move up to 50 pounds and, occasionally, up to 100 pounds. Specific vision and perceptual abilities are required, as well as exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment.

Outdoor and mechanical rooms may be involved under extreme weather conditions.
