AboutThe Role
The Town of Mooresville is seeking a Pump Maintenance Mechanic to perform skilled technical work in the operation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of machinery and equipment at sewer pumping stations and wastewater treatment plants. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the reliability and performance of critical wastewater infrastructure. The ideal candidate has journey-level mechanical experience and strong trade skills in mechanical and plumbing systems.
Work includes maintaining and repairing pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, and related equipment, as well as participating in preventative maintenance and troubleshooting activities. This role involves work in both indoor and outdoor environments and exposure to wastewater and mechanical hazards, requiring attention to safety, reliability, and quality workmanship.
- Maintain and repair pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, and related wastewater equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections, including lubricating bearings and gear boxes, replacing filters, cleaning wet wells, packing pumps, and performing routine site maintenance.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment failures to restore proper operation.
- Dismantle, rebuild, and overhaul equipment such as pumps, grinders, blowers, engines, diffusers, gauges, and grit collectors.
- Service and maintain electrical generators used for emergency power during outages.
- Participate in facility, grounds, and site maintenance activities.
- Follow safety standards, including OSHA requirements related to wastewater operations.
- Perform related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED and five to seven years of experience in pump repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain a Grade I Wastewater Collection (WWC) certification within one year of employment.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or the ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
- Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain may also be required.
