Cardiac Sonographer

Overview

At Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina, we are committed to compassionate care that changes the lives of patients, their families, and the community. The Cardiac Sonographer will perform daily clinical operations of Echocardiography, providing comprehensive imaging services such as 2‑D, 3‑D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress echocardiograms across all sites and shifts, including emergency coverage.

Perform daily clinical operations of Echocardiography including performing echocardiograms, entering preliminary interpretation, covering all sites and shifts including call coverage.

• Perform routine and emergency 2‑D, 3‑D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress echocardiograms as requested by the physician.
• Operate and maintain equipment, ensuring optimal diagnostic recording and performing preventive maintenance.
• Analyze patient history and prepare preliminary reports for cardiologist review, including comparisons to prior studies.
• Participate in quality‑improvement activities, evaluate procedural results for technical quality and accuracy, and maintain appropriate logs, files, and records.
• Provide emergent call coverage and work variable shifts, including weekends.
• Supervise, coach, and mentor staff; direct orientation and staff scheduling; provide technical direction for the team.
• Assist physicians with guided studies to support complex procedures and reduce procedural risks.
• Act as preceptor for new sonographers, providing onboarding, in‑service education, and instruction.
• Ensure compliance with ICAEL requirements and prepare ICAEL applications to maintain accredited status.
• Participate in professional development activities, including conferences, continuing education, and research involvement.

• Graduate or completion of a program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or currently holds the required registry or certification.
• Level I:
  Must obtain ARDMS certification within 18 months of employment.
• Level II:
  Minimum of two years’ experience as a Sonographer.
• Level III:
  Minimum of four years’ experience within specialty modality in which promotion is sought.
• BLS certification required.
