Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital (Mooresville, North Carolina) is a 123‑bed hospital offering 24‑hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women’s services, and surgical specialties. The Medical Lab Technician position is primarily scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex laboratory tests for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Store, label, and prepare specimens using manual and automated equipment.
- Prepare sterile media, incubate cultures, and handle solutions, reagents, and stains.
- Maintain detailed records, report results, and monitor quality control and quality assurance policies.
- Calibrate equipment, perform routine maintenance, and keep laboratory supplies stocked.
- Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, heel or finger stick, and conduct point‑of‑care testing (WAIVED) and urinalysis.
- Use hospital and laboratory information systems and software for data entry and reporting.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, and other personnel to provide technical guidance.
- Act as PIC (person in charge) after one year of high‑complexity laboratory experience and supervise laboratory operations as needed.
- AS, AD, or BS in a related field; previous classification as a non‑certified medical technologist.
- Minimal CLIA requirements met for the tasks performed.
- Experience in patient contact, customer service, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory safety, infection control, and hazardous chemical handling.
- Working knowledge of laboratory and hospital computer systems.
- Attention to detail and compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other staff.
Primarily Saturdays and Sundays.
