Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. The smallest of Duke Health's four hospitals at 123-beds, it offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties.

General description of the job class

To actively coordinate, on a day-to-day basis, the provision of high quality, comprehensive pharmaceutical care to the patients, in compliance with federal and state legal/regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards. This includes: (1) involvement with multiple drug distribution functions (inclusive of computerized order entry and/or prospective review and verification of physicians  orders, IV admixture preparation, etc.); (2) defined clinical/cognitive activities to optimize therapeutic outcomes under the aegis of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee directives (which include active communication with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff about the need to clarify and/or change an order along with documentation of intervention outcomes);

(3) educational activities with pharmacist colleagues and other health care professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses, etc.) to maintain and advance clinical competency vis-a-vis drug therapy; and, (4) "supervisory" functions which provide professional oversight and direction of technicians  drug preparation and distribution activities to assure safe and expedient provision of pharmaceutical care to DRMC patients and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Participate in clinical/cognitive activities to optimize therapeutic outcomes under Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee directives, including communication with physicians, nurses, and other staff about clarifying or changing orders and documenting intervention outcomes.
  • Lead educational activities with pharmacist colleagues and other health care professionals to maintain and advance clinical competency in drug therapy.
  • Provide supervisory oversight and direction of technicians  drug preparation and distribution activities to ensure safe and expeditious pharmaceutical care for patients and staff.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:

    Entry-level pharmacy degree (e.g.,

    B.Sc, Pharm

    D) from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Experience:

    Preferred:
    Two (2) or more years of experience in a hospital or health system.
  • Licensure:
    Licensed Pharmacist by the NC Board of Pharmacy.
