Overview

Miller's is proud to provide training for those interested in a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant free of charge. Each student is required to complete classroom training and clinical training. Upon completion, students must pass the state exam to become a Certified Nurse's Aide. See below for more details on training.

Miller's is committed to offering comprehensive training for aspiring Certified Nursing Assistants. The program covers classroom instruction and clinical practicum as part of the pathway to earning the state certification.

• Classroom Instruction:
  Each student is required to complete 36-40 hours of classroom work. All students must pass (with 80%) all tests administered during the classroom portion. Each student has 3 attempts to pass.
• If a student does not pass the classroom phase, they will not be placed into the clinicals.
• Clinical Practicum:
  Each student is required to complete 75 hours of supervised practicum in a long-term care facility. During practicum, the student must perform all required skills successfully. The first 16 hours of practicum are with the class instructor. Absence during this time will result in being excused from the program.
• During the practicum, the student may be assigned to work with a preceptor who will assist with organization and time management. At the completion of the program, the preceptor and the instructor will be given an evaluation sheet to complete regarding the student’s progress.
• All skills checklists (RCPs) not signed during the classroom must be demonstrated and signed off during the clinicals by the clinical instructor or other licensed nursing professional. Completed checklists must be submitted at the completion of the clinicals with all required skills completed or the student will not be eligible for the required state exam.
• A “clinical sign-in record” is provided to each student. This form must be completed by the student and signed by a qualified licensed professional daily. The student must include date and actual hours worked, student signature, cosigned by licensed supervisor.

• Students are required to pass a criminal background check along with a TB test and physical prior to starting the course.
• Attendance to all classroom sessions is mandatory to meet program requirements as set by the Indiana State Department of Health.
• Unsatisfactory performance or attendance issues may result in dismissal from the course/program.
• Students should check with the facility for details on dress code requirements.
• When a student successfully completes the course, they will be awarded a certificate of completion, receive a scheduled test date, and have the test paid for by Miller’s Merry Manor if hired and in good standing as an employee. If the student does not pass the first test, it may be retaken and paid for by Miller’s a second time. If not employed, the application and certificate of completion will be provided to schedule the test at the student’s expense.
