Tool Room Machinist

Vulcan Industries is seeking a Tool Room Machinist to join our tool room team on the 1st shift (4:30 AM – 3 PM) at our Moody, AL facility. This role involves operating lathes and mills to repair various damaged components and fabricate jigs for MIG welding. The ideal candidate will have expertise in using these and other machines to perform custom repairs.

Responsibilities include executing diverse machining operations to remanufacture or restore customer and company components to precise dimensional specifications and quality standards.

Essential job functions

• Able to work cooperatively with employees and supervisors to achieve a pleasant and efficient work environment.
• Able to apply shop math to machine set up and problem‑solving situations.
• Follow prescribed procedures where available for repair and remanufacture of customer and company products.
• Seek input on the repair process, tooling, etc. from a supervisor or an employee with specific knowledge of historic repair processes.
• Collaborate with others to solve problems and work efficiently.
• Apply knowledge and work to make a durable and reliable repair which is cost effective and as undetectable as possible.
• Creates jigs for new jobs in a timely manner.

Basic Skills

• Capable of lifting 35 lbs. repeatedly on a daily basis.
• Capable of standing for 8–10 hours with three breaks.
• Able to think creatively to design new jigs and identify repair solutions.
• Minimum of one year of experience operating various machines, including mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and hand tools.
• At least one year of welding experience.

Preferred skills

At least 3 months experience at Vulcan Industries.
