American Iron & Metal (AIM) is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Groundsman / Operator to join our Rail Team in Montréal-Est, Québec, from Monday to Friday, 5:00 to 1:30 In this role, you are responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and great communication skills.
What you’re responsible for:
Ensuring safe operation of the locomotive and train movementsAbility to carry out specific instructions detailing a train’s route and specific movementsPerform switching of railcars, including coupling and uncoupling cars, and is able to lift out coupling devicesSignaling crew members for movement of the engine or train using a radio to indicate when to start, stop, back-up, set or release air brakesHaving the ability to move on and off moving or stationary equipment while the train is in motion during yard switchingRiding moving rail cars using the ladder on the side for extended amount of periods of timeCarry out other related tasks as required by operational needs or supervisor directives.Qualifications

You have previous experience as a groundsman OR working within a rail team is preferredYou have excellent teamwork skills and clear communicationYou are physically fit including the ability to pull oneself up and down from a railcar continuouslyYou are able to lift (50lbs+) and twist air hoses, secure rail car brakes, derails, and switchesYou are proactive with the ability to take action/assess a situation with teams safety paramountYou are comfortable with physically demanding work in all-weather conditionsYou have experience in a manufacturing environment and in operating heavy equipment (loaders, cranes, shuttle trains)
