Position: Intern, Developer Performance Analytics
Location: Montreal

Job Summary

The Intern, Developer Performance Analytics is responsible for supporting the Network Operations team by performing ad hoc analysis and developing automated reports to drive business objectives. The role provides technical expertise on CN data, including train, car, and locomotive movement and developing new measures as required. Moreover, the incumbent works closely with business users to identify requirements and collaborates on technical approaches to quickly fulfill business needs.

The role takes full responsibility of assigned deliverables and focus on key tasks in order to deliver as per service commitment

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop custom tools, websites and automated reports using reporting software and tools (, Tableau, Power BI, DataIKU)
  • Develop strong data mining techniques to answer specific questions from Network Operations or other groups
  • Provide insight based on the data, along with recommendations of course of action
  • Prepare trend analysis
  • Learn about CN Data, reports, and metrics, and suggest improvement
  • Understand how metrics are calculated, processed, and how they relate to historical trends
  • Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn independently and adapt quickly to changing demands, while taking initiative to identify opportunities for improvements and drive results
  • Advanced level skills in Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Looks for opportunities for continuous improvement and takes initiative
  • Initiative and eagerness to learn both from industry professionals and independently
  • Knowledge of software development (, VBA)
  • Knowledge of Python, R, database development (, Transact-SQL and PL/SQL)
  • Knowledge of Tableau, Power

    BI, DataIKU or other self service analytic tools*
  • Education

  • Post secondary computer sciences ( technology, science, Engineering, Logistics, software engineer) would be ideal given computer skills needed to execute above requests.
