Position: Intern, Data Analyst (Finance)
Location: MontrealJob Summary The Intern, Data Analyst (Finance) will work directly under the supervision of the Principal Economist, contributing to high-impact economic analysis that informs senior leadership decisions. The intern will streamline CN’s data collection processes, develop evaluation metrics (, month-over-month and year-over-year changes), and build interactive dashboards in Power BI that visualize key performance indicators. These dashboards will be used in presentations to the CEO, Senior Vice Presidents, and Vice Presidents, ensuring that leadership has timely, data-driven insights to guide strategic planning.
Major Responsibilities
Document existing data sources and ingestion processesStreamline and automate economic data collectionDevelop evaluation metrics and analytical frameworksDesign executive-facing dashboards in Power BIRequirements
Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsProficiency in data analysis tools such as Python or RExperienced in analyzing and managing both structured and unstructured dataExperience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platformStrong understanding of financial concepts such as financial analysis, Net Present Value (NPV), Return on Investment (ROI), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and financial trendsAbility to work collaboratively within a team and communicate complex ideas clearlyHighly organized with a keen attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlinesAbility to manage multiple efforts simultaneously and strong project management skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillExperience with Excel, including advanced functions and financial modelling*Interest in financial markets and investment strategies*Education
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Finance, Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, or a related fieldCoursework or practical experience in financial analysis, machine learning, statistical modelling, or data analytics*Previous internship experience in Finance, Data Science, or a related field
