Senior Director ALM & Investment Risk Oversight

A career as a Senior Director, ALM & Investment Risk Oversight at National Bank means acting as a strategic leader for the independent oversight of Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB) within the second line of defense. You will lead a team of 5 senior professionals responsible and be accountable for ensuring that key and emerging IRRBB risks are appropriately identified, measured, stress tested, governed, and escalated, in line with the Bank's risk appetite and regulatory expectations.

This role has a strong enterprise wide impact, requiring deep expertise in balance sheet risk, sound judgment, and the ability to challenge senior firstline stakeholders, while leading, developing, and setting clear expectations for a high performing risk oversight team, and maintaining an effective risk partnership.

Your role

• Own the independent oversight of ALM and Investment risks within your scope, including IRRBB
• Lead, develop, and set direction for a team of senior risk professionals, ensuring consistent standards of judgment and quality
• Be accountable for the final risk opinions delivered to senior management and governance bodies
• Oversee and challenge risk metrics, limits, escalation frameworks, and stress testing assumptions
• Provide strong, independent challenge of firstline methodologies, balance sheet strategies, and positioning
• Contribute to the continuous enhancement of IRRBB governance, stress testing, and oversight frameworks
• Support senior governance forums and regulatory interactions as required

Your team

The ALM and Investment Risk Oversight team, operating in the second line of defense, provides independent oversight of the Bank's balance sheet and market-related risks, including:

• Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB), including regulatory metrics and stress testing
• Structural FX risk
• Oversight of Treasury and investment activities

You will lead a team of five experienced professionals, providing direction, setting priorities, developing capabilities, and ensuring the quality and rigor of delivered analyses.

The team plays a critical role in supporting senior management by delivering clear, timely, and risk-based insights, while maintaining strong independence from the first line of defense.

Requirements

• University degree in a quantitative or finance related discipline
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in risk management, treasury, or ALM, with strong IRRBB expertise
• Demonstrated leadership of senior professionals
• Strong balance sheet risk and regulatory knowledge
• Proven ability to articulate and defend risk views at senior levels

Minimum of 3 days per week in the office

Languages:

English, French

Reason to require this language: you will need to work closely with our colleagues outside Quebec.
